“MBE’S WHO’S AS SMART AS THE DJ”®

MUSIC TRIVIA QUESTION CONTEST

SPONSORED BY TGI FRIDAY’S RESTAURANT, EASTON, PA

CONTEST RULES

This contest will be similar to the popular “Who’s Smarter than a Fifth Grader,” television grade school questions contest, only we will cover questions from ONLY Music Trivia.  Contestants will come from the TGI Friday’s Restaurant community.  Patrons can compete for the opportunity to be chosen as the MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT of the night, as details follow below.  The chosen MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT will go on to choose A MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE as a Special Helper.  The helper will come up to the DJ AREA to await the question.  The CONTESTANT will choose and answer Music Trivia Questions from 10 Main Categories.  Once the category is chosen, the DJ/HOST will read a question, the audience helper chosen will write an answer on a piece of paper and hand it to the DJ/HOST, and then the CONTESTANT will answer the question to the audience.  THE AUDIENCE IS NOT ALLOWED TO HELP THE CONTESTANT OR SHOUT OUT ANY ANSWERS.  The Contestant can talk about and rationalize his/her answer, and even change an answer at any time until he/she FINALIZE’S the answer.  The Special Helper cannot talk with or answer any questions from the CONTESTANT.  A correct answer will win the prize at that level.  The Contestant must choose a new Special Helper from the audience every TWO QUESTIONS.  If all the THREE SUPER SAVERS have been used, then the CONTESTANT will not be allowed to pick or use any more Special Helpers.  The contestant will continue on to the next question until one of the following three situations occur:

1.       The Contestant chooses to stop and keep the current level status

2.       The Contestant loses a Music Trivia Challenge

3.       The Contestant wins the Final Music Trivia Challenge and Grand Prize

The Pre-Competition Round

Patrons will fill out a brief survey, and then enter the pre-competition round.  All approved pre-competition contestants will compete against each other at the same time to answer 10 Music Trivia Questions read aloud by the DJ/HOST.  These questions will be answered by each contestant, in private, by writing the answers down on the piece of paper.  The pre-competition contestant answer forms will be collected by the DJ/HOST and reviewed for correct answers.  The pre-competition contestant with the highest number of correct answers will advance to the MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT status, competing for all the prizes.  The remaining contestants will exit the competition at that point for the night.  In the event there are multiple pre-competition contestants with a tie for first place, all tied contestants’ names will be written on a piece of paper and placed into a BIN by the DJ/HOST, then presented to the Bartender on Duty, who will choose ONE SLIP from the BIN.  The name of the tied contestant chosen from the BIN will advance onto the MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT status.

The MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT Round

The chosen MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR CONTESTANT will come up to the Contestant Stage Area. The CONTESTANT can now choose up to 5 Family/Friend/Audience Members to act as potential Special Helpers.  Those Special Helpers will take seat near the DJ Booth Area. The Contestant will take stand in front of the Microphone Position.  The Contestant IS NOT allowed to communicate directly with the Backup Singers during the competition about the answers, but can ask questions of advice on which category to choose.   Before choosing the first category, the contestant will choose one of his Special Helpers to come up and take a seat next to him/her as the Special Helper of that round.  The Special Helpers are not allowed to blurt out answers.  If these rules get broken, the contestant would be disqualified.

The contestant will choose one of the first 10 categories.  After choosing a category, the DJ will announce the question.  At this point, the Special Helper will quietly write down a secret answer to the question (without the Contestant or anyone else speaking or giving advice).  After the Special Helper is finished writing the answer, he/she will give the confidential slip to the DJ/HOST.  Now the contestant will be allowed to answer the question out loud to the audience.  He/she can discuss the question out loud with the DJ, and rationalize his/her answer.  If he/she changes his/her mind about the answer, it can be changed until it is FINALIZED.

If the contestant is worried about his/her answer, he/she can choose one of the THREE MUSIC TRIVIA SUPER SAVERS.  If the contestant is still unsure, he/she can continue using MUSIC TRIVIA SUPER SAVERS until all three have been depleted.  Once out of SONG SUPER SAVERS, the contestant MUST finalize an answer.  When the contestant is ready to FINALIZE an answer, he/she will speak out the words, “FINALIZE MY ANSWER”.  This will lock in the answer chosen by the contestant.

Once the answer is locked in and finalized, the DJ/HOST will reveal the Special Helper’s Answer, and Finally, the Correct Answer.  A special song will be played in between questions.  If available, it will be the song on which the question was about.  The CORRECT ANSWERS will be pre-recorded in writing by the DJ/HOST before that night’s event.  The DJ/HOST’s written answer will be the absolute dominating decision as to whether or not the answer is correct.

Now, a contestant can CHOOSE to STOP COMPETING at pre-defined points during the contest.  If he/she chooses to STOP COMPETING, he/she will walk away winning SOME PROMO ITEM prizes won up to that point, and ONLY the HIGHEST DOLLAR AMOUNT won up to that point.  The contestant CANNOT STOP once the Music Trivia Category is chosen by the contestant and the question has begun.  In our game, if you choose a Music Trivia Category, you must answer it or leave a loser.  So, the contestant can choose to STOP after any question is correctly answered, and before choosing the next category.  Again, the DJ/HOST will have the final say in this matter.  If the Contestant STOPS, he/she must speak out to the audience and state, “My Name is ____________, and I may love TGI Friday’s Music Trivia Contests, BUT I AM NOT AS SMART AS THE DJ.”

A contestant loses if he/she chooses a Music Trivia Category and then FAILS to CORRECTLY ANSWER a question.  The losing contestant will leave the game at that point, losing any and all DOLLAR AMOUNTS previously won, but will be allowed to keep some promo items won prior to that point.  In the event the contestant loses on the very first question, there will be a parting gift.  If the Contestant LOSES, he/she must speak out to the audience and state, “My Name is ____________, and I may love TGI Friday’s Music Trivia Contests, BUT I AM NOT AS SMART AS THE DJ.”

If the contestant correctly answers ALL TEN MAIN QUESTIONS, he/she will have to choose whether or not to continue on to the Grand Prize Question.  If he/she chooses to continue on to the Grand Prize Question, he/she will be risking ALL Previously Won Promo Items and Dollar Amount Prizes.  If the contestant wins the Grand Prize Final Music Trivia Question, that contestant WILL become the MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR of the week, will win the Grand Prize Dollar Amount, and will win ALL Promo Items.  NO MORE THAN ONE DOLLAR AMOUNT PRIZE CAN BE WON!  That contestant will also be presented with a special MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTARS Award Certificate, with his/her NAME Imprinted on the Certificate, which can be picked up at the next event night.  There will be the opportunity for a Photo Opportunity with the MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTAR, MBE STAFF and TGI FRIDAY’S STAFF to possibly be used in any marketing/promotional advertisements.  Perhaps a memorial plaque can be created and displayed on-site at TGI Fridays, commemorating all MBE Who’s Smart SUPERSTARS Grand Finale Winners.  HOWEVER, IF THE CONTESTANT CHOOSES AND LOSES THE GRAND PRIZE FINAL MUSIC TRIVIA QUESTION, he she will have LOST EVERYTHING!  All the Promo Items and the Dollar Amounts previously won on other questions will be forfeited.  The contestant will leave the show with a parting gift. He/She must then speak out to the audience and state, “My Name is ____________, I may love TGI Friday’s Music Trivia Contests, I made it all the way to the Grand Finale Question and Risked Everything, BUT I LOST AND I AM NOT AS SMART AS THE DJ.”

THE Who’s Smart SUPER SAVERS

  1. Save Me: The contestant has ONE Save Me to fall back on.  The contestant does not need to invoke this Save Me Super Saver.  In the event he/she answers a question incorrectly, and only if this “Save Me” feature has not yet been used, the Special Helper’s Written Answer will be deemed the Contestant’s answer.  If the Special Helper was correct, then the Contestant will be “Saved by the Special Helper”.  However, if the Special Helper is also wrong, then the Contestant LOSES.  THE CONTESTANT CAN ONLY BENEFIT FROM THIS SUPER SAVER ONCE DURING THE COMPETITION.

  1. Copy:  The contestant may choose to BLINDLY COPY the written answer of his/her Special Helper before and instead of giving his/her own answer.  Any answer the contestant may have started to give or wanted to give will be null and void, and the written answer of the Special Helper will be deemed the official contestant answer.  Again, if the answer is correct, the contestant moves on.  If the answer is incorrect, the contestant LOSES.  THIS OPTION CAN ONLY BE CHOSEN ONCE DURING THE COMPETITION.

  1. Peek:  The contestant may choose to REVEAL the written answer of the Special Helper.  Once revealed, the contestant will have to decide whether or not the Special Helper’s answer is correct, or whether he/she should still go out on his/her own with an answer.  The contestant does not have to accept the written answer as his/her official contestant answer, but either way, if the official contestant answer is wrong, the contestant will LOSE.  THIS OPTION CAN ONLY BE CHOSEN ONCE DURING THE COMPETITION.

  1. NO SUPER SAVERS CAN BE USED DURING THE GRAND FINALE MUSIC TRIVIA QUESTION.
